02 / The market
The regulated iGaming market behind Ontario online casino apps
Ontario became the first province to open its online casino market to private operators. Since April 2022, any company that wants to offer casino games to Ontarians online has to register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and sign an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, which conducts and manages the games for the province. That is the regulated iGaming market, and every one of the Ontario online casino apps in our index belongs to it.
For players, that means Ontario casino apps answer to a regulator in the province. Registration is not a formality. The AGCO’s standards for internet gaming cover game fairness, how player funds are protected, advertising, identity checks and the tools players get to control their own play. Operators that break them can lose their registration.
How to check an app yourself
- Find the brand on the operator list at igamingontario.ca.
- Compare the company named there with the developer named in the App Store or Google Play.
- Look for the iGaming Ontario mark and the operator’s registration details on its website.
Casino apps in Ontario that fail any of these checks are outside the regulated market, however professional they look.
03 / Location
Why Ontario casino apps check where you are
Ontario’s rules apply to people physically in Ontario, not to people who live there. Every registered app therefore runs a geolocation check before you can place a wager, and repeats it during the session. Near the borders with Quebec, Manitoba and the United States, approximate location is not precise enough, so the apps ask for precise location while they are open.
The check is also why location shows up on almost every privacy label: 7 of the 10 apps in our Ontario list declare it. If location is the only sensitive item on a label, that is the rule at work. If the label also lists identifiers and usage data “used to track you”, the operator shares more than the rules require; our app pages show which apps do.
| Where you are | What the Ontario app lets you do |
|---|---|
| Inside Ontario | Play once the location check passes |
| Outside Ontario | No play; the app blocks wagers until you are back in the province |
04 / Operators and OLG
Private operator apps next to OLG
Not all Ontario casino apps come from private companies. OLG, the provincial lottery corporation, runs its own app for lottery and casino games, and it plays in the same market as the private operators. It is by far the most rated casino app in Canada on the App Store (380,810 ratings, 4.8/5 at the last check), largely because it is also the lottery app millions of Ontarians already use.
Private operators differ from OLG mainly in their game libraries, payment options and live dealer tables. Several of them publish an app built specifically for the iGaming Ontario market. Download the one marked for Ontario; other versions of the same brand will not let you play here.
05 / Payments
Paying in and out of Ontario online casino apps
Interac e-Transfer is accepted by 8 of the 10 operator apps in our Ontario list, and it works for withdrawals as well as deposits at most of them. Debit cards, bank transfer and e-wallets cover the rest. Registered operators can only offer payment methods they have confirmed with the regulator.
The first withdrawal is the slow one. Before any money leaves, the operator confirms your identity and address. Upload both right after you register and that waiting time disappears from your first cash-out. Our withdrawal guide explains each status you may see.
06 / Red flags
Spotting an app that is not registered
- The brand is missing from the iGaming Ontario operator list.
- The app came as a file through a text message, social media or a pop-up, not from the store or the operator’s site.
- The developer named in the store has nothing to do with the casino brand.
- The app never asks for your location, yet lets you play.
- It offers payment methods registered operators do not use, or pushes you to pay through a stranger’s account.
Any one of these is reason enough to stop. Our safety guide covers fake apps in more depth.
07 / Staying in control
Limits and support in Ontario
Registered Ontario apps have to give you deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion in the account settings, and they remind you how long you have been playing. Set a deposit limit before your first deposit, when it is easiest to choose a number you will stick to.
If gambling stops feeling like entertainment, ConnexOntario answers around the clock at 1-866-531-2600, and the responsible gambling page lists support across Canada.
How this Ontario list is built
Operators come from the iGaming Ontario register; store data from the Canadian App Store and Google Play, checked Oct 9, 2026; payment facts from each operator. We did not play these apps, and the order does not rate their games: the best casino apps in Ontario for you depend on how you pay and what you play. How we check apps.
08 / FAQ
Ontario casino apps: your questions
Are casino apps legal in Ontario?
Yes, when the operator is registered with the AGCO and runs its games under an agreement with iGaming Ontario, and you are 19 or older and physically in Ontario. OLG’s own app is also legal. Apps from operators that are not on the iGaming Ontario list are not part of the regulated market.
How do I check if an Ontario casino app is registered?
Open the operator list on the iGaming Ontario website and search for the brand. The casino’s own site should also show the iGaming Ontario mark and the name of the company behind it. If the company name in the App Store or Google Play differs from the one on the list, ask the operator before you sign up.
What is the difference between the AGCO and iGaming Ontario?
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario registers operators and enforces the standards they must meet. iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of the AGCO, conducts and manages the online games and holds the operating agreements. A legal Ontario casino app needs both: a registration and an agreement.
Do I have to be in Ontario to use these apps?
Yes. You must be physically present in Ontario when you play. You can open an account from anywhere, but the app checks your location before every session and blocks play outside the province. A Toronto resident on holiday in Quebec cannot play on an Ontario app until they are back.
Why does the app ask for precise location?
To prove you are inside Ontario. Approximate location is not accurate enough near the provincial border, so Ontario apps ask for precise location while the app is in use. You can refuse, but then the app will not let you play.
How old do you have to be to use casino apps in Ontario?
19 for online casino games and sports betting. Lottery products are 18. The age check happens when you open the account, normally by uploading a photo of a government ID.
Can I use iPhone and Android casino apps in Ontario?
Yes. All 10 operator apps in our Ontario list are on the Canadian App Store, and 8 are also on Google Play. Brands without a Play listing let Android users play in the mobile browser instead.
Is a casino app better than the mobile site in Ontario?
Your account and the games are the same. The app adds a biometric login and notifications; the browser takes no storage and asks for fewer permissions. Both have to pass the same location check.
Which payment methods do Ontario casino apps accept?
Interac e-Transfer is the most common: 8 of the 10 operator apps in our Ontario list accept it. Visa and Mastercard debit, bank transfer and e-wallets such as MuchBetter or PayPal are also common. Registered operators may only offer payment methods they have confirmed with the regulator.
How long do withdrawals take on Ontario casino apps?
Most operators in our list state 24 to 48 hours after approval, some up to three days. The first withdrawal usually waits for your identity check, so upload your documents early.
Is OLG an online casino app?
Yes. OLG, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, runs lottery and casino games in its main app and sports betting in a separate PROLINE app. The main app is the most rated casino app in Canada on the App Store, with 380,810 ratings at the last check.
Can I use an Ontario casino app in Alberta?
No. An Ontario app only works inside Ontario. Some operators publish a separate Alberta app that only works in Alberta, so you need the version for the province you are in.
What data do Ontario casino apps collect?
Every app lists it on its App Store privacy label. 7 of the 10 apps in our Ontario list declare location data, which the rules require. Many also declare identifiers and usage data used to track you for advertising; our app pages show each label row by row.
What responsible gambling tools do Ontario apps have?
Registered apps must let you set deposit limits, take a time-out and self-exclude from your account settings. ConnexOntario offers confidential support around the clock at 1-866-531-2600.
What if an Ontario casino app is not on the iGaming Ontario list?
Then it is not part of the regulated market, whatever the app says about itself. Do not deposit. Unregistered apps are not held to Ontario’s standards on fair games, payouts or complaints.
How often is this Ontario list updated?
Store data was last checked on Oct 9, 2026. The operator list follows the iGaming Ontario register, which we check whenever we update the page.
